2012/11/24 - Parmigiani Fleurier the new Bugatti Vitesse
BUGATTI TYPE 370 – BUGATTI SUPER SPORT – BUGATTI VITESSE
In 2004, Parmigiani Fleurier revolutionised the world of watchmaking by placing the entire movement of its Bugatti Type 370 watch on a transverse axis, just like a car engine block. A pillar assembly connected the calibre's five plates and the train wheels cut in the shape of a car wheel.
In 2010, Parmigiani Fleurier flipped all the mechanical components of the new calibre Bugatti PF 372 onto a vertical axis, retaining the 90° time display which is well appreciated by car drivers.
In a world premiere, Parmigiani Fleurier successfully developed a 90° time setting system by integrating a system of double pinions with bevel gearing. The Bugatti Super Sport is born.
In 2012, Parmigiani Fleurier has readopted the legendary movement and design but reworked the shapes, colours and materials for a more masculine edition: The Bugatti Vitesse
The manually-wound Calibre Parmigiani 372 (power reserve of 10 days) was designed in two planes in order to match the contours of the new Bugatti watch.
The complete PF 372 movement was designed and produced by the Parmigiani Fleurier manufacture.
Six sapphire crystals reveal the 333 impressive components of the new Bugatti Super Sport.
The highly tapered profile of the Bugatti Super Sport recalls the iconic form of the lugs on a Parmigiani Fleurier watch case.
The oval dial with openwork design, set on an axis of 90 degrees and made from Texalium™ features a colour to mirror the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. The indexes on the dial are spindle shaped - or trapezoid -, designed to convey a sense of acceleration.
The black gold finishing, côtes de Genève and satin bridges, and the 3-dimensional turn-in angles on the train wheel bridge, reflect Parmigiani Fleurier's high standards.
The dynamometric crown, perfectly integrated just above the profile, allows time setting and winding to be made with a slight pressure.
